Mapping Out NZ’s Forestry Future - Rotorua, 6 October 2010.

A free event to help New Zealand’s forest industry get the most out of geographical information systems (GIS). The conference, the first of its kind in New Zealand, will explore the latest developments and trends in GIS technology and best practice use in forestry operations. Delegates will hear from leading GIS experts and have a chance to compare experiences with industry colleagues.
Forecaster Training and User Group Meeting

FFR and ATLAS are pleased to offer a Forecaster training course alongside the regular User Group Meeting. The training course is being offered in conjunction with the 3 month free trial period being offered to all members of FFR’s Radiata theme from May 1st to July 31st 2010. The training course is offered to maximise the value that members of this theme can get from the trial licence period, and also to realise more value from their membership to this theme (as Forecaster is the vehicle through which some of the theme’s research is made available to the industry).

17-18 May 2010 - Forecaster training and User Group Meeting at NZ School of Forestry, University of Canterbury, CHRISTCHURCH
19-20 May 2010 - Forecaster training and User Group Meeting at School of Forestry, Waiariki Institute of Technology, ROTORUA

The charge for attending the training course is $290 per person excluding GST (NZD). Attendance to the User Group Meeting will be free of charge to both current Forecaster users and members of FFR’s Radiata theme.

Please note: Rotorua training is now fully booked, however registrations are still welcome for Christchurch training and User Group Meetings at both locations. Registrations close 11 May 2010.

New ATLAS manager appointed!

We’re pleased to announce that a new manager has been appointed to take the helm at ATLAS. Bob Forgan comes from a background of spearheading IT solutions into a range of industries including the Animal Health Board, ONTRACK (Rail), and the Department of Internal Affairs. Although he has had little background in the forestry industry to date, he has a passion for the outdoors and is very keen to come up to speed. We have no doubt that you, our clients, will ensure he gets there quickly! Bob will join us in early August and we believe he will be an excellent fit for the team.

New Zealand ATLAS Software user Group Meeting

We would like to confirm that the next New Zealand ATLAS User Group meeting will be held at Waiariki Institute of Technology's National Centre of Excellence at their Rotorua campus on Thursday the 28th and Friday the 29th of May.
Link to Google maps:
www.tinyurl.com/Waiariki-NCE

The format of the meetings will be:
- Thursday 28th May will consist of a GeoMaster User Group Meeting in the morning, followed by an interactive tutorial in the afternoon (advanced features).

- Friday 29th May will consist of a Modelling Software User Group Meeting in the morning (Cruiser, FieldMan, Yield Table Manager, Harvest Scheduler, and Forecaster), followed by an interactive Forecaster tutorial (with the focus on silvi scheduling).

Please see attached registration form (please complete one form per person) and return with your details by Monday the 11th of May .

For Forecaster users, we intend to use the UGM forum to prioritise upcoming development work. I will send out a list of current issues on the to-do list in the next couple of weeks to get people thinking. If you can't make it to the UGM but would like to have your say on this topic, you will be able to tender your preferences which we can table at the meeting. In the meantime during your use of Forecaster I would encourage you to take note of anything which you would like to see changed/added.
